Pricing and features change often, so we describe how each tool works rather than quoting prices. Check each vendor's site for current plans.
The three approaches to internal linking
1. Suggestions you approve. The tool shows related posts and you choose which links to add. You keep control but spend time per link.
2. Keyword rules. You define a keyword and a target URL. The tool links that keyword automatically wherever it appears. This is fast but only as smart as your rules.
3. Plan and apply. The tool scans your whole site, works out which posts should link to which, then applies the plan. It is good for fixing an existing site with hundreds of posts.
Most real sites need a bit of each.
Quick comparison
| Tool | Main approach | Where it works | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Link Whisper | Suggestions, with reports | WordPress plugin | Dedicated linking tool with site reports and orphan-page detection |
| Internal Link Juicer | Keyword rules, automatic | WordPress plugin | Free version plus paid tier; rules-based |
| Rank Math | Suggestions inside an SEO suite | WordPress plugin | Link suggestions come with the suite; advanced features are on paid plans |
| Yoast SEO Premium | Suggestions inside an SEO suite | WordPress plugin | Suggestions in the editor; internal linking tools need Premium |
| Pin Magic | Suggestions, automatic links where a safe anchor exists, and a site-wide plan | Chrome, Edge, Brave extension | Works in the editor from your browser; no plugin on the site |
Link Whisper
Link Whisper is built only for internal linking. It suggests links as you write and offers site-wide reporting, which helps you find posts with few or no incoming links. It suits editors who want to approve every link. Because it is a plugin, it runs on the server and the data lives in your WordPress install.
Internal Link Juicer
Internal Link Juicer is the clearest rules-based option. You set keywords for each post and it inserts links automatically. It has a free tier, which makes it a common first choice on a budget. The trade-off is that links follow your rules, so poorly chosen keywords can create awkward or repetitive anchors.
Rank Math and Yoast Premium
If you already use one of these SEO plugins, their built-in link suggestions are a convenient starting point. They are not full linking systems, but for a small to medium site they may be enough. Check which features sit in the free version and which require a paid plan, since that boundary changes.
Pin Magic
Pin Magic's internal linking is part of its WordPress extension. It works in three places.
Interlink Post. On a single post, it finds related posts and adds links using anchors taken from text that is already in your paragraph. Anchors are 2 to 3 words long and come from the target's URL slug first, then shared phrases, then title phrases. Single-word anchors are never used, and anchors that start or end with filler words like "the" or "your", or that are made of generic words, are rejected. Links go only into normal paragraph or list text, never into headings, captions, image alt text, existing links or code. The same target is never linked twice in one post.
No forced links. If it cannot find a good anchor, it does not invent one. It returns the related post as a suggestion with a Copy URL button, and you pick your own anchor text. It also shows suggested links back from older posts.
Site Rebuild. For a whole blog, it scans your site, proposes which posts are pillars and which are clusters, lets you confirm the roles, computes a link plan using your rules (link cap per 1,000 words, minimum inbound links, maximum clicks from the home page, excluded post IDs) and applies it. Posts that got no safe anchor are listed, with a CSV download.
Where Pin Magic is not the best fit: if you want links to be added continuously in the background on the server, without anyone opening the editor, a plugin such as Internal Link Juicer fits that style better. Pin Magic works when you run it, from your browser.
How to choose
- You want to approve every link and see reports: Link Whisper, or the suggestions in your SEO plugin.
- You want hands-off keyword linking: Internal Link Juicer.
- You already use Rank Math or Yoast and have a small site: start with their built-in suggestions.
- You have an older blog and want to fix the whole structure at once, with safe anchors and no forced links: Pin Magic's Site Rebuild.
- You also want AI images and Pinterest pins: Pin Magic bundles linking with the image workflow.
What good internal linking looks like
Whatever tool you use, the basics are the same. Google's documentation says links should be crawlable (a real <a href> tag) and that anchor text should be descriptive and concise. Avoid "click here". Make sure important pages are not orphaned, meaning no other page links to them. And do not over-link: a few relevant links beat a wall of them.
Frequently asked questions
Do internal links help SEO?
Yes. They help search engines find pages, show which pages matter and give context through anchor text.
Is automatic internal linking safe?
It is safe when anchors are natural and links are relevant. Tools that force exact-match anchors everywhere can look spammy. Prefer tools with sensible limits.
Can I use two linking tools?
You can, but they may overlap and add the same links twice. Pick one primary tool.
Does Pin Magic need a plugin on my site?
No. It is a browser extension that works in the WordPress editor.
Conclusion
There is no single best internal linking tool, only the best fit for how you work. Decide whether you want suggestions, rules or a full plan, then test on a handful of posts. For a practical walkthrough, read how to add internal links to WordPress posts automatically.
