Internal Linking for Large Blogs and Catalogs

Large blogs usually have a linking problem: hundreds of posts, a few well-linked favorites and many pages that nothing points to. Pin Magic's Site Rebuild scans your WordPress posts, suggests pillar and cluster roles, builds a link plan with natural 2 to 3 word anchors and applies it only after you approve.

Why large sites need a plan

On a small blog you can remember what you wrote. At 300 posts you cannot. Common results are:

  • Orphan pages. Posts with no internal links pointing to them are harder for readers and crawlers to find.
  • Buried pages. Important posts sit many clicks away from the home page.
  • Uneven linking. Older posts get links; newer ones are ignored.
  • Repeated anchors. The same phrase links to different pages, or too many links crowd one paragraph.

Google's documentation says links should be crawlable and that anchor text should be descriptive, concise and relevant. Internal linking is one of the few SEO jobs fully in your own hands.

How Site Rebuild works

  1. Scan and build the graph. The extension reads your posts to understand what each is about and how posts relate.
  2. Review roles. It suggests which posts are broad pillar pages and which are supporting cluster posts. You confirm or change each role.
  3. Compute the plan. The plan lists source post, anchor phrase and target post.
  4. Apply. You can clear existing links first or add to them, then apply the plan.
  5. Handle leftovers. Links with no safe anchor are listed, and you can download a CSV and add them by hand.

Safety rules built into the anchors

The engine is conservative on purpose:

  • Anchors are 2 to 3 words. Single-word anchors are never used.
  • Anchors come from the target's URL slug first, then shared phrases, then title phrases.
  • It rejects anchors that start or end with filler words such as "the" or "your", and anchors made only of generic words.
  • Links go only into paragraph and list text, never into headings, captions, image alt text, existing links or code.
  • The same target is never linked twice in one post.
  • When there is no good anchor, nothing is forced. The related post appears as a suggestion with a Copy URL button.

Settings that control the result

  • Link cap per 1,000 words (2 to 5): keeps posts from filling with links.
  • Minimum inbound links per post: reduces orphans.
  • Maximum clicks from home: keeps key pages close to the top.
  • Excluded post or page IDs: leaves out pages that should not take part, such as legal pages.

Begin with a lower link cap and raise it only if posts feel under-linked.

Catalogs and category-style sites

If your site has many similar pages, such as product roundups, location posts or collection guides, a few habits help:

  • Group related pages under a pillar guide.
  • Link pillar to cluster and cluster back to pillar.
  • Use different anchors for different targets.
  • Keep catalog pages that you do not want included in the exclude list.

Site Rebuild works with WordPress posts. For product and category pages in a store, review those links manually.

Check after applying

Open a handful of posts and read them as a reader. Links should feel useful, not forced. Then look at your most important pillars and confirm they now have inbound links from related posts. Revisit the plan every few months as you publish.

TipWork on one topic cluster first. Apply the plan, read the posts and adjust the settings before running it for the whole site.

Frequently asked questions

Can it break my posts?

It changes only link markup inside paragraph and list text. Take a backup of your site before any large change, as you would with any bulk edit.

Does it work for pages as well as posts?

The Interlink Post tool works on the post and page editor. Site Rebuild plans links across posts.

Do I have to accept the whole plan?

You review the plan before applying it. Excluded IDs and settings let you narrow it.

Conclusion

Large sites need a plan for internal links, not a hope that writers remember. Site Rebuild gives you a map, a reviewed plan and safe anchors.
